The content of this site is subject to the following statement, please read this before continuing.

Osteopathy is a primary healthcare profession regulated by the Osteopaths Act 1993. As such, osteopaths are bound by advertising standards legislation which prohibits “unsubstantiated” claims in literature or on websites. An “unsubstantiated claim” in scientific terms, is any claim to cure a condition where that claim has not been subject to intensive research.

Osteopathic practice is based on the philosophy that people are unique individuals, and do not come for treatment as a specific condition, e.g. “frozen shoulder”. Osteopathic treatment is based on the relationship between the structure and function of the human body, unique to each patient.

From this perspective, osteopaths assess and treat a wide range of healthcare issues in both adults and children. The discussions which continue in this site are not in the main based on clinical trials. They are founded on osteopathic principles and the clinical experience of generations of osteopaths.

Where conditions are named in this site it is either because there is research into that particular condition, or to serve to illustrate the kinds of symptoms which might respond to osteopathic treatment.

Please note, the Sutherland Society, Sutherland Cranial College, and Sutherland Cranial Teaching Foundation are separate organisations.
